Evaluation of Quality of Life in Patients who Follow Up with the Diagnosis of Diabetes and Related Factors: a Pilot Study for Turkey

Objective: The aim of this study was to make a pilot study before the study which was planned at the national level in Turkey, named as quality of life in patients with the diagnosis of diabetes mellitus and its associated factors: a 2-year prospective cohort study . Methods: A questionnaire which has been developed by researchers and the ADDQoL 19 (The Audit of Diabetes - Dependent Quality of Life 19) scale which aims to determine the diabetic patients' quality of life levels were used in the study. Results: For the pilot study questionnaire was administered to 76 patients. Of the patients, 39.5% were male and 60.5% were female. The mean age of patients' was 55.39 +/- 0.89 years and 72.4% of them are with type 2 diabetes mellitus. According to the results of ADDQoL scale, the quality of life of patients was found to be adversely affected from diabetes mellitus at a rate of 96.1%. Conclusion: The purpose of studies about DM prevention and control in Turkey is Turkey with high quality of life in diabetic patients. By this pilot study, it is shown that analyzable and administrable comprehensive research can be done. Therefore, the new studies are important to shed light on the arrangements and the application.
