Öğe Awareness of prostate cancer diagnosis and management among Turkish males: a cross sectional study from Çorum(Taylor and Francis Ltd., 2020) Sungur, M.; Caliskan, S.Introduction: Prostate cancer is the most common malignancy among men in the United States and the second most common cancer in Turkey. The incidence of prostate cancer is increasing in industrialized countries. Aim: The aim of the study was to assess the knowledge about prostate cancer, its diagnosis, and treatment among patients with lower urinary tract symptoms. Methods: This study was performed from January to April 2015 with the patients applied to our clinic. A questionnaire that includes 10 questions was administered to the participants. Results: One hundred fifty-nine participants were included in this study. The participants’ ages were between 40 and 82 with a mean age of 61.5 ± 7.9 years. Patient awareness of prostate biopsy and prostate cancer were 21.37 and 71.06%. The main origin awareness of PSA testing is family and friends. On the other hand, if the doctor advises acout prostate biopsy, 47.16% of the patients would accept and 11.31% of them would refuse this invasive procedure. Conclusion: Prostate cancer is one of the important health-related problem among men in the world. Additional researches are needed to investigate the knowledge of prostate cancer among men and the Ministry of Health may take preventive methods to increase the cancer knowledge level of people. © 2019 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.Öğe Effect of new punched vortex generators in a rectangular channel on heat transfer using Taguchi method(Taylor & Francis Inc, 2021) Caliskan, S.; Dogan, A.; Sahin, U. R.In this study, the effects of New Punched Rectangular Vortex Generators (NPRVGs) and Punched Rectangular Vortex Generators (PRVGs) inside a rectangular channel on heat transfer augmentation, Nusselt number, and friction factor were experimentally investigated. Temperature contours and average Nusselt numbers analyzed heat transfer characteristics resulting from the use of vortex generators. Furthermore, this study investigated the optimum values of the design parameters within the system of vortex generators by using the Taguchi method, and the orthogonal experimental plan was made for L-16 (4(3)x2(1)). Reynolds numbers (5181, 10363, 20328, 25510), winglet arrangement, winglet attack angles (15 degrees, 30 degrees, 45 degrees, 75 degrees) and a distance of punched winglet from the channel bottom (b) to constant winglet height (e = 25 mm) (b/e = 0.04, 0.12, 0.2 and 0.36) were determined the working parameters in the experiments. Measurements are carried out for a rectangular channel with aspect ratio AR = 2, winglet transverse pitch (S) to longitudinal winglet height (e) ratio of S/e = 0.67 and a winglet height (e) to channel height (H = 25 mm) ratio of e/H = 1. Heat transfer rates of NPRVGs and PRVGs were compared to the obtained results for a smooth channel. The heat transfer performance is improved considerably by the NPRVGs. The maximum thermal performance factor increased from 0.99 to 1.89 owing to the combination of the vortex generator and the newly punched hole.Öğe Experimental and numerical investigation of impinging jet array heat transfer on a smooth and v-shaped ribbed surface(Begell House, Inc, 2012) Caliskan, S.; Baskaya, S.The flow field and heat transfer from smooth surfaces and surfaces with V-shaped ribs (V-SR) was studied experimentally with a Laser-Doppler Anemometry (LDA) system and infrared thermal imaging technique. In addition, the phenomenon was investigated numerically using CFD. Heat transfer results from these surfaces under impingement of a circular jet array (5x3) are presented. The velocity profiles were measured at Reynolds number of 10,000 and at H/d equal to 3 and 12. Along the target plate, different boundary layer profiles were obtained. Positions of maximum radial and axial velocities and turbulence intensities have been determined. The heat transfer results have also been compared with those of a smooth surface under the same flow conditions to determine the enhancement in the heat transfer coefficient. Nusselt numbers are higher for the V-SR surfaces as compared to smooth surfaces.Öğe Nephrocutaneous Fistula After Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy(Mary Ann Liebert Inc., 2019) Caliskan, S.; Sungur, M.Background: Nephrocutaneous fistula (NF) is a rare pathologic condition in urology practice. Xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis and renal tuberculosis are the two common causes of this pathologic condition. Another rare cause of NF is surgery. Percutaneous nephrolithotomy is standard treatment for >2 cm renal stones. However, this surgery can be associated with surgical complications in long-term follow-up. NF is a rare complication of percutaneous renal surgery. Case Presentation: In this study, we present a 31-year-old man with continuous urine leakage at the nephrolithotomy scar during 11 months, starting from 1 month after surgery. Final confirmation is NF and could be treated with nephrectomy. Conclusion: Surgical treatment such as nephrectomy is essential for non- or low functioning kidney with fistula formation.
