Öğe Conductive Polymer Doped with 2D-MoS2 Coatings for the Corrosion Protection of Mild Steel(Polish Acad Sciences Inst Physics, 2019) Asan, G.; Asan, A.; Celikkan, H.In recent years, due to environmental and ecological concerns, electropolymerization of conductive polymers on non-noble metals has become important. In this study, adherent and homogeneous polyaniline and polypyrrole films doped with two dimensional molybdenum disulphide (2D-MoS2) were electropolymerized onto mild steel (MS) in 0.1 M H2C2O4 by cyclic voltammetry method. The coatings obtained on the MS are characterized by SEM. The corrosion performance of polypyrrole, polyaniline, polypyrrole doped with 2D-MoS2 and polyaniline doped with 2D-MoS2 film coated on MS has been measured in sulfuric acid medium by the Tafel polarization method. The polypyrrole exhibited good corrosion protection properties. The polypyrrole coating has higher corrosion performance than polyaniline and polyaniline doped with 2D-MoS2. The polypyrrole doped with 2D-MoS2 showed the best corrosion performance in those coatings. This shows that polypyrrole + 2D-MoS2 on MS has more stability and an impermeable layer against corrosion in the sulphuric acid solution.Öğe Investigation of the Effects of MoS2 Doped (PANI and PPy) Coatings on Mild Steel Corrosion in Alkaline Medium(Polish Acad Sciences Inst Physics, 2019) Asan, A.; Asan, G.; Celikkan, H.One of the common ways of protecting the metal from corrosion is to form a film on the metal surface or coating it with a suitable material. Unfortunately, as long as there is a needle-like gap in the coating, water and oxygen will reach the metal surface and start corrosion. In this study polypyrrole (PPy), polyaniline (PANI), PPy + MoS2 and PANI + MoS2 coatings were obtained on steel in 0.1 M H2C2O4 by cyclic voltammetry method. The electro polymerization was carried out between 0.0 V and 1.0 V. The effect of these coatings on corrosion of steel was determined by the Tafel polarization method. As a result of experiments, it is determined that these obtained homogenous and adherent coatings are effective against corrosion. The best protection against corrosion is provided by PPy + MoS2, PPy, PANI + MoS2 and PANI coatings, respectively. Better protection efficiency of PPy than PANI can be explained by the fact that the pyrrole oxidation potential is lower than the oxidation potential of aniline. The reason MoS2 added coatings are more effective than others is that the gaps formed in the coating may be filled by MoS2.Öğe The effect of Congo red inhibitor on the corrosion of various steels in a 3.5% NaCl medium(Sciendo, 2010) Sahin, M.; Asan, A.; Celikkan, H.; Aksu, M. L.This study is concerned with the use of Congo red as an inhibitor for low alloyed carbon steel, petroleum steel and boron steel at 60 C in 3.5% NaCl aqueous solution. Analysis was performed using the Tafel polarization measurements and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Congo red was observed to cover the surface by adsorbing upon it, and its inhibition efficiency depended on the concentration. The efficiency was the highest one in low-alloyed carbons steels, followed by petroleum and boron steels. The type of adsorption occurring on the metal surface was also determined.
