Öğe Determination of anxiety levels and perspectives on the nursing profession among candidate nurses with relation to the COVID-19 pandemic(Wiley, 2021) Cici, Remziye; Yılmazel, GülayPurpose This study aimed to determine the anxiety level of candidate nurses and capture their perspective on the nursing profession in light of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Design and Methods This descriptive study consisted of 322 nursing students in Turkey after the pandemic announcement of the World Health Organization. A web-based survey was used and anxiety levels was determined via State Anxiety Scale and Beck Anxiety Inventory. Findings Positive perspectives (63.4%) on the nursing profession before the pandemic decreased to 50.6%, whereas the negative (26.7%), and the undecided (9.9%) perspectives increased to 32.3% and 17.1%, of the total respectively. A significant increase was found in the anxiety scores with negative perspectives combined with an unwillingness to practice their profession in the future (P < .05). Practice Implications Pregraduate training should be provided to candidate nurses about pandemic nursing and professional difficulties they may possibly encounter in infection epidemics.Öğe Determination of Sleep Quality of Hospitalized Patients in a Neurosurgery Clinic(2020) Cici, Remziye; Özkan, MeralObjective: This study aimed to determine the sleep quality of patients in a neurosurgery clinic. Materials and Methods: This descriptive study was conducted between April 2013 - March 2014 with hospitalized patients aged ?18 years in a neurosurgery clinic of a university hospital in Turkey. All patients in the neurosurgery clinic were included. The study sample consisted of 140 patients who were selected using improbable random sampling method. Data were collected via questionnaire, including patient identification form and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality index. Mean, percentages, independent t-test, Kruskal-Wallis, and analysis of variance were used to analyze the data. Significance was determined for p<0.05. Results: The mean Pittsburgh sleep quality index score of the patients was poor (7.63±4.04). In addition, subjective sleep quality, sleep latency, sleep duration, and sleep disorder sub-component scores were poor, whereas habitual sleep activity, sleep medication use, and daytime sleep dysfunction sub-component scores were good. Female patients had poor sleep quality compared with male patients (p<0.05). Conclusion: This study showed that neurosurgery patients have statistically significant poor sleep quality.Öğe Limited health literacy is associated with poorer clinical outcomes in elderly with type 2 diabetes mellitus(Wolters Kluwer Medknow Publications, 2019) Yılmazel, Gülay; Cici, RemziyeBACKGROUND Diabetes mellitus is a significant global public health concern. Poor knowledge of disease and healthcare utilization is associated with poor health outcomes, leading to increasing burden of diabetes in many developing countries. The present study aimed to assess diabetes health literacy and clinical outcomes in elderly patients registered to the home health agency. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted in the city of Corum, Turkey, with 160 type 2 diabetic patients of both sexes and aged between 50-91 years. To identify health literacy, the Rapid Estimate of Adult Literacy in Medicine test was administered to the patients. Clinical parameters were based on routine medical examinations by measuring blood pressure levels, glycosylated hemoglobin, and lipoprotein levels. In order to identify the risk of depression, the Beck Depression Scale was used. RESULTS Of the patients, 85.0% had limited health literacy. The majority of patients (95.0%) had poor glycemic control and limited health literacy was associated with having high level of HbA1c (p<0.05). Adequate health literacy was associated with regular foot care (p<0.05). Also patients with limited health literacy were more likely to have depression (p<0.001). Limited health literacy increased the risk of poor glycemic control (OR=6.82;95% CI=1.34-9.78) and retinopathy (OR=6.91;95% CI=1.23-9.44). CONCLUSION Limited health literacy is consistently associated with poorer diabetes clinical outcomes in elderly type 2 diabetes melltius Contents of diabetes education should be arranged according to patients' health literacy level which requires visual and auditory teaching materials for patients with limited health literacy.Öğe Musculoskeletal disorders increases the insomnia severity in nurses(BRAZILIAN ASSOC SLEEP, 2022) Cici, Remziye; Yılmazel, GülayObjectives: To determine prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders and the relationship between insomnia severity among nurses working in a training and research hospital. Material and Methods: This descriptive study was carried out with 293 nurses. Cornell musculoskeletal disorders questionnaire for musculoskeletal disorders and insomnia severity index were used to determine the insomnia severity. Results: In our study, the severity of the discomfort was mostly moderate and mild in painful areas. There was a significant difference in terms of gender, educational status, marital status, seniority, types of working, and presence of chronic diseases for musculoskeletal disorders in different body regions (p<0.05). It was determined that the threshold level of insomnia was significantly higher in those with musculoskeletal disorders in other body regions except the knee and lower leg region (p<0.05). Conclusion: In our study, it was determined that musculoskeletal disorders were common in the upper body areas and the severity of insomnia was at the threshold level. Neck, right shoulder and right upper arm were risky body areas for insomnia.
