Öğe A study on the factors affecting the academic performance of distance education students and formal students(Hitit Üniversitesi, 2016) Kör, Hakan; Erbay, Hasan; Demir, Emre; Akmeşe, Ömer FarukRecently the numbers of distance education programs and students enrolling in them have increased significantly. This increase also carries the question of what factors may have an effect on academic success. The demographic features, motivation levels, personal development status and basic computer literacy of students have been taken into account and their effects on the academic success of students have been analyzed. With this purpose, surveys prepared with the help of professional opinion have been applied to certain groups. The sample group of this study consists students of the Kırıkkale University Distance Education Center and the formal education students of the Kırıkkale Vocational School. The results have been analyzed with the help of the SPSS data analysis program (version 22.0) and have been turned into figures. The academic success of distance learning students and formal education students have been compared and this data has been used to identify whether there are any significant connections between academic success and the factors determined. In the conclusion of this study, the figures have been explained separately, and suggestions have been made regarding both distance education and formal education.Öğe An examination of the correlation between science and technology attitudes scale, frequency of smartphone usage scale and lifelong learning scale scores using the structural equation model(Scientific Methodical Center, 2017) Kör, Hakan; Erbay, Hasan; Engin, Melih; Dünder, EmreLifelong learning can be defined as all of the activities which aim to develop an individual’s skills, knowledge and abilities, socially, individually and professionally. Previous research on lifelong learning has been about using computers, digital competence and the correlation between demographic characteristics and intelligence. However, only one scale was used in this research, and, in general, only scores for demographic characteristics and lifelong learning were compared. In this research, the correlation between distance-learning students’ attitudes to technology, their frequency of use of smartphones and their attitudes to lifelong learning were examined. Reliability studies were carried out prior to the study and the Turkish adaptations of the scales published in international journals were administered with permission. The study sample consisted of 881 students studying in 12 different units of Hitit University: six Vocational Schools, four Faculties and two Graduate Schools. The data were analysed by creating a structural equation model on the open source R analysis program. According to the research results, there was a significant correlation between the three scales, and the correlation between the ‘lifelong learning’ scores and the ‘frequency of of smartphone usage’ scores was greater than the ‘technology attitudes’ scores. © 2016, Scientific Methodical Center. All rights reserved.Öğe Bibliometric analysis of publications on house dust mites during 1980-2018(Elsevier Espana Slu, 2020) Demir, Emre; Akmeşe, Ömer Faruk; Erbay, Hasan; Taylan Özkan, Hikmet Ayşegül; Mumcuoğlu, Kosta Y.Background: The global prevalence of allergic diseases has increased dramatically in recent years and are now recognized as significant chronic diseases worldwide. One of the most important allergens that causes allergic diseases is house dust mites. Objective: This study aims to present a bibliometric overview of research published on dust mites between 1980 and 2018. Methods: Articles published from 1980 to 2018 were analyzed using bibliometric methods. The keywords ?Dust mite*,? and ? Dermatophagoides ? were used in the Web of Science (WoS). Simple linear regression analysis was used to estimate the number of future publications on this subject. Results: A total of 4742 publications were found, 2552 (53.8%) of them were articles. Most of the articles were on subjects related to immunology (1274; 49.9%) and allergy (1229; 48.1%). Clinical and Experimental Allergy (222; 8.7%) was the journal with the most publications. The USA was the country that most contributed to the literature with 461 (18.1%) articles. The countries producing the most publications on this subject were developed countries. The most active author was W.R. Thomas (66; 2.5%). The most productive institution was the University of Western Australia (91; 3.6%). The most cited article was published in the New England Journal of Medicine .Conclusion: According to the findings, developed countries were the most productive in publishing on house dust mites. By planning multinational research rather than regional studies, it may be suggested that researchers in underdeveloped or developing countries could also-conduct more research on this subject.(C) 2019 SEICAP. Activities in this field started through newspapers and letters and they were improved by using printed material, radio, television and internet. Recently, as well as the use of computer and internet have become widespread in the world, web-based distance education systems have been used more than the other teaching tools. In Turkey, departments of distance education attached to the Council of Higher Education were opened in large number and they are still continued to be opened. In this paper, in terms of quality and interactivity it is aimed to evaluate the course materials used by the institutions of distance education. Through the surveys applied to the institutions of distance education determined by choosing from the different regions of Turkey, it was aimed to find out the faults and defects of the course materials in terms of quality and interactivity. It is aimed on distance education to design an efficient content development system through thinking the roles such as lecturers, managers and studentsÖğe Diagnosis of Lumbar Spondylolisthesis via Convolutional Neural Networks(Ieee, 2019) Varçın, Fatih; Erbay, Hasan; Çetin, Eyüp; Çetin, İhsan; Kültür, TurgutSpondylolisthesis, due to bilateral defects of the posterior vertebral arch, refers to a slippage of a vertebral body over another, usually with the superior vertebral body slipping anteriorly relative to an adjacent inferior vertebral body. The most common site for spondylolisthesis is L4 or L5. As with most spinal diseases, radiological findings are the main ingredients in diagnosing spondylolisthesis. Therefore, computer-assisted systems can be used in diagnosing spondylolisthesis when adequate experience doctors in the outpatient clinics are not present. In this paper, we looked for a solution to the problem of diagnosis of spondylolisthesis by using two well-known artificial neural networks AlexNet and GoogleLeNet. The data set consists of 272 X-ray images in total. 136 of these images belong to patients suffering from spondylolisthesis, and 136 images without spondylolisthesis. Experimental results demonstrate that GoogleLeNet is 93.87% accuracy and performs slightly better than AlexNet with an accuracy of 91.67%.Öğe End-To-End Computerized Diagnosis of Spondylolisthesis Using Only Lumbar X-rays(Springer, 2021) Varçın, Fatih; Erbay, Hasan; Çetin, Eyüp; Çetin, İhsan; Kültür, TurgutLumbar spondylolisthesis (LS) is the anterior shift of one of the lower vertebrae about the subjacent vertebrae. There are several symptoms to define LS, and these symptoms are not detected in the early stages of LS. This leads to disease progress further without being identified. Thus, advanced treatment mechanisms are required to implement for diagnosing LS, which is crucial in terms of early diagnosis, rehabilitation, and treatment planning. Herein, a transfer learning-based CNN model is developed that uses only lumbar X-rays. The model was trained with 1922 images, and 187 images were used for validation. Later, the model was tested with 598 images. During training, the model extracts the region of interests (ROIs) via Yolov3, and then the ROIs are split into training and validation sets. Later, the ROIs are fed into the fine-tuned MobileNet CNN to accomplish the training. However, during testing, the images enter the model, and then they are classified as spondylolisthesis or normal. The end-to-end transfer learning-based CNN model reached the test accuracy of 99%, whereas the test sensitivity was 98% and the test specificity 99%. The performance results are encouraging and state that the model can be used in outpatient clinics where any experts are not present.Öğe Forming a cloud computing based lifelong learning platform: integration of basic computer courses as mass open online courses to university(Iclel Conferences, 2016) Kor, Hakan; Erbay, Hasan; Aksoy, HamitToday's formal educational institutions remain incapable of keeping people's knowledge up to date. Updating information in fields like general culture, information technology, language education and vocational education is needed. Online learning settings, certificate trainings, in service trainings and social network settings greatly contribute to updating information. The learning function is a lifelong process besides formal educational institutions. Lifelong learning can be defined as individual's whole collaboration of events which aims to develop their knowledge, skills and talents individually, vocationally or socially in order to manage their lives. It can be said that a web based learning settings has contributed to the learning processes the most these days. In this regard, people and especially universities grants free access to supply of information they have through Mass Open Online Courses (MOOC). In order for users to access MOOC, having an internet browser is enough. MOOC is also able to develop lifelong learning skills and brings the participants ways of self-learning and information gathering. Strong hardware and software substructure is needed for an MOOC system which will be accessed by thousands. Rapid developments in information technology have decreased hardware costs significantly. By decreasing the costs, developed software and hardware platforms are formed and brought into mutual use of people. Bringing the hardware and software components (storage, data base, mail services and some private software) into people's mutual use form the basis of cloud computing. Cloud computing systems provide great advantages in terms of cost and workforce. Also, through cloud, many subunits can be managed at one origin. In this study, processes of forming a cloud computing based MOOC platform where basic computer technology subjects are included are given place. Through the formed platform, individuals learn new information in the information technology field or keep their knowledge up to date. The happiness of individuals in their career is directly related with their love of the job they do. As a consequence, the importance should be paid to the vocational preference in the early stages of educational life. In this study, a research has been carried out about the secondary school students in Turkey. In the first step of the study students are asked which profession they will prefer. In the second step Personality Inventory Holland test is applied to students in order to see which profession field they tend to. In the last part of the research, the findings that are gathered by comparing the profession that each student in the sample would like to choose and the profession or professions that the student is apt to as a result of the test will be interpreted and suggestions will be offered to student him/herself, his family and to the institutions that is thought to be suitable. It is more common, especially between the ages of 10 and 30 years. Additionally, approximately 7% of the entire population is diagnosed with acute appendicitis at some time in their lives and requires surgery. The study aims to develop an easy, fast, and accurate estimation method for early acute appendicitis diagnosis using machine learning algorithms. Retrospective clinical records were analyzed with predictive data mining models. The predictive success of the models obtained by various machine learning algorithms was compared. A total of 595 clinical records were used in the study, including 348 males (58.49%) and 247 females (41.51%). It was found that the gradient boosted trees algorithm achieves the best success with an accurate prediction success of 95.31%. In this study, an estimation method based on machine learning was developed to identify individuals with acute appendicitis. Araştırmada, akademik personellerden “Yaşam Boyu Öğrenme Ölçeği” başlıklı anket aracılığıyla veriler toplanmıştır. Nowadays, it is seen that millions of data are recorded continuously, and a large amount of data accumulation has occurred. Although data accumulation increases exponentially, the number of analysts and their capabilities to process these data are insufficient. Although we live in the information age, it is more accurate to say that we live in the data age. By using stored and accumulated data, it is becoming increasingly essential to reveal meaningful relationships and trends and to make predictions for the future. It is important to analyze the data obtained from the education process and to evaluate the success of the students and the factors affecting success. These analyses may also contribute to future training activities. In this study, a data set, including socio-demographic variables of students enrolled in distance education at Hitit University, was used. The authors estimated the success of the students with demographic and social variables such as age, gender, city, family income, family education level. The primary purpose is to provide students with information about their estimated academic achievement at the beginning of the process. Thus, at the beginning of the education process, students' success can be increased by informing the students who are predicted to be unsuccessful. Diversification and enhancement of this data may also support other decision-making mechanisms in the training process. Additionally, the factors affecting students' academic success were researched, and the students' educational outcomes were evaluated. Prediction success was compared using various machine learning algorithms. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that the Random Forest algorithm was more predictive of student achievement than others.Öğe Uzaktan ve örgün eğitimin öğrenci başarısı üzerine etkisinin araştırılması(Gaziantep Üniversitesi, 2013) Kör, Hakan; Çataloğlu, Erdat; Erbay, HasanBu çalışmada meslek yüksekokulu bilgisayar programcılığı bölümü öğrencilerinden uzaktan eğitim ve örgün eğitim alan iki farklı grup arasında öğretim metotlarının, öğrenci başarı düzeylerine etkisi incelenmiştir. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak anket kullanılmış ve katılımcılara web tabanlı olarak uygulanmıştır.Araştırmanın çalışma gruplarını, 2011- 2012 eğitim-öğretim yılı güz döneminde, Kırıkkale Üniversitesi Uzaktan Eğitim ve örgün eğitim öğrencileri ile Hitit Üniversitesi örgün eğitim öğrencileri oluşturmaktadır. İlk etapta İnternet Programcılığı-I dersini alan uzaktan eğitim ve örgün eğitim öğrenci gruplarına CSS ile Javascript konularını kapsayan ön test uygulanıp elde edilen veriler kaydedilmiştir. Ardından uzaktan eğitim ve örgün eğitim gruplarında CSS ile Javascript konuları 4 hafta süreyle işlenilerek son test uygulanmıştır. Test sonucunda kaydedilen veriler analiz edilerek, hangi öğretim metodunun öğrenci başarısı üzerinde daha etkili olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgulara göre, araştırmaya katılan tüm gurupların öntest ve sontest puanları karşılaştırılarak çizelgeler halinde verilmiştir. Çizelge yorumlarında, başarı farklılıklarının hangi gurup lehine olduğu belirtilerek gerekli açıklamalara yer verilmiştir. Araştırmanın son kısmında ise sonuçların nedenleri üzerine yorum ve öneriler yapılmıştırÖğe Yaşam boyu öğrenme ölçeği Türkçe uyarlama çalışması(2017) Engin, Melih; Kör, Hakan; Erbay, HasanBu çalışmanın amacı, orijinali Wielkiewicz ve Meuwissen (2014) tarafından geliştirilen yaşam boyu öğrenme ölçeğinin Türkiye koşullarında geçerlik ve güvenirlik çalışmasını yapmaktır. Ölçeğin Türkçeye çevirisi dil uzmanlarınca ve araştırmacılar tarafından yapılmıştır. Daha sonra Türkçeye uygunluk, içerik ve ölçme değerlendirme açılarından da uzmanlar tarafından değerlendirilmiştir. Alınan görüşler doğrultusunda düzenlemelerin yapıldığı ölçek, geçerlik ve güvenirliğinin saptanması amacıyla 727 üniversite öğrencisine uygulanmıştır. Ölçeğin yapı geçerliğine ilişkin bulgular açımlayıcı ve doğrulayıcı faktör analizi yöntemi ile sağlanmıştır. Ölçek maddeleri tek faktör altında toplanmıştır. Ölçeğe uygulanan faktör analizi sonucu bir soru çıkarılmıştır, son durumda ölçek toplamda 15 madde içermektedir. Ölçeğin geneli için Cronbach Alpha güvenirlik katsayısı 0,93 olarak bulunmuştur. Elde edilen sonuçlar ölçeğin Türkiye’de de kullanılabileceğini göstermiştir.
