Öğe Candan Kaptanoğlu kolesiyonundaki Eretna dönemi sikkeleri(Hitit Üniversitesi, 2025) Erkan, Esra; Gündogdu, OktayThe Eretna Principality, established in Anatolia in 1335, was a Turkish principality that operated in various regions of Anatolia, primarily centered around Kayseri and Sivas. The founder of the Eretna Principality was Alaeddin Eretna, and various rulers took over the government during the historical period of the principality. These changes of rulers affected not only the political structure but also the coins of the period, and this change was reflected in the desingns and ornaments of the coins. The 992 coins in the Candan KAPTANOĞLU Collection, all of which are silver, were analyzed. Eretna coins have been typologically classified, new types have been added, and important details such as ornamental elements and stamps have been added to the literature. Religious expressions ( Kelime-I Tevhid, caliph names), ruler titles and writing styles reflect the Islamic identity of the Eretna Principality. The geometric and floral ornaments on the coins reflect a simple but meaningful aesthetic approach. While Kayseri and Sivas were important minting centers during the Eretna Period, it is observed that the mints were more active during the reigns of Alaeddin Eretna and Gıyâseddîn Mehmed. During the reign of Hodja Ali Shah, however, coin quality and mint activity declined. The study presents a comprehensive analysis of the Eretna period coins in terms of their historical, typological, minting places, stamps and ornaments and reveals new findings in terms of art history. It constitutes an important source for research on the Eretna Principality and the coins of this period.
