    Gestasyonel Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) riski olan gebelerde benlik imajı algısının prenatal depresyona etkisi

    In this cross-sectional and descriptive study, the effect of body image perception on prenatal depression in pregnant women at risk of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) was investigated. Data were collected from 236 pregnant women who applied to the Obstetrics and Gynecology Outpatient Clinic of a university hospital in the Central Black Sea Region between October 2023 and May 2024 and met the inclusion criteria. The Sociodemographic Information Form, the Body Understanding Measure for Pregnancy Scale and the Beck Depression Inventory were administered to pregnant women identified as being at risk for GDM according to the Gestational Diabetes Risk Assessment Scale. The participants scored 24.83±2.92 on the Gestational Diabetes Risk Assessment Scale, 53.20±2.78 on the Body Understanding Measure for Pregnancy Scale, and 15.74±10.59 on the Beck Depression Inventory. The mean scores of the Beck Depression Inventory and the Body Understanding Measure for Pregnancy Scale did not differ significantly according to GDM risk status (p>0.05). GDM risk did not affect depression levels or body image perception. However, a statistically significant, positive, and low-level correlation was found between the total scores of the Body Understanding Measure for Pregnancy Scale and the Beck Depression Inventory (p<0.05). As a result, it was concluded that among pregnant women in the GDM risk group, those with a low perception of body image were at higher risk for prenatal depression.
