Üniversitede eğitim gören sporcu öğrencilerin yapay zekaya yönelik tutumlarının incelenmesi: Türkiye-Azerbaycan örneği
(Hitit Üniversitesi, 2025) Nasirov, Zeynalabdin; Kutlu, Mehmet
In this thesis, the attitudes of university students interested in sports in Turkey and Azerbaijan towards artificial intelligence (AI) were examined in terms of some demographic variables (gender, education, age, level of AI use, level of awareness of AI, AI applications they use in sport, sport type: individual and team, country). The population of the study consisted of all university students actively engaged in sports in Turkey and Azerbaijan, while the sample consisted of 340 university students interested in sports selected by convenience sampling method in Turkey (N=170) and Azerbaijan (N=170). In the study, the Personal Information Form prepared by the researcher to determine the demographic characteristics of the participants and the General Attitude Towards AI Scale developed by Schepman and Rodway (2020) and adapted into Turkish by Kaya et al (2020). In the analysis of the data, arithmetic mean, frequency, percentage and standard deviation values were examined within the scope of descriptive statistics. Independent samples t-test was used for pairwise comparisons and one-way analysis of variance (One-Way ANOVA) was used for three-way comparisons. According to the results of the t-test analysis, it was determined that the attitudes of the participants towards AI in terms of all subjects did not differ significantly according to the gender variable (p>0,05). In the analysis made according to the educational status variable, it was determined that there was no significant difference between undergraduate, graduate and doctorate participants in terms of attitudes towards AI (p>0,05). However, a significant difference was found in negative attitudes towards AI according to the age variable, and it was seen that the negative attitude scores of the participants aged 25 and over were higher (p<0,05). It was determined that with the increase in age, the view of AI became negative and the level of knowledge decreased. In all groups, while the rate of being aware of AI is %80, the rate of benefiting from AI in some way decreases to %73,5. When the related literature is examined, it is seen that the rate of being aware of AI applications is around %80 and this situation is similar to our findings. However, the rate of use of AI applications was found to be lower (%47,7-%73,5) in the sport groups encountered in the literature compared to our findings. According to our research findings, the positive attitude scores of the participants in Turkey towards AI (3,28±0,87) were significantly higher than the participants in Azerbaijan (3,09±0.60) (p<0,05). In the results of this study, it is understood that the elderly have more negative attitudes towards AI. This reveals the importance of informing not only the young but also the elderly about AI, as the contemporary approach requires it. Considering the relatively low level of use of AI in the two Turkish countries, it can be concluded that young people should be encouraged and informed at an earlier age. These findings reveal that the perceptions and attitudes of university students interested in sports towards AI may differ according to the formation and demographic factors, and suggest that new approaches are needed for the use of AI technologies in the field of sports among university youth in the two countries.
