Öğe Rusya-Ukrayna savaşının ulaştırma sektörüne finansal etkilerinin olay çalışması yönetimi ile analizi – BIST örneği(Hitit Üniversitesi, 2025) Uysal, Ebubekir; Açıkalın, SüleymanHistorical analysis show wars strain not only economies and financial systems, but also disrupt critical sectors like producation, logistics and supply chains. Crucaially, these impacts extend beyond cpmbatand nations, gradually spreading across regions to trigger global crises. The Russia-Ukraine conflict exemplifies the pattern, with its effects significantly impacting Türkiye alonside numerous other countries. Since Russia and Ukraine are strong in the energy and agriculture sectors, the conflict caused disruptions in supply chains and logistics systems. As a result, European countries adopet new energy-saving polices and searched for new suppiers for key products like sunflower oil and wheat. Due to the closureof the Black Sea to shipping, vessel traffic in the İstanbul and Çanakkale Strait decreased, While truck traffic at Türkiye border gates with Georgia, Bulgaria, and Greece increased noticeably. These changes show that the war negatively affected logistics, transportation, and supply chain operations in Turkey. This study analyzes the possible effects of Russia-Ukraine war on companies listed in the BIST Transportion Index using the event study method. The BIST Transportation Index was chosen bacause it is closely related to logistics and supply chain activities. The event date was set as Februay 24, 2022, the day Russia began its invasion. The historical average model was used to calculate Average Abnormal Returns (AAR) and Cumulative Average Abnormal Returns (CAAR). The analysis reveals that companies within the index exhibited statistically significant negative abnormal returns (AAR) on and around the event day. Moreover, this negative effect, as measured by Cumulative Abnormal Returns (CAAR), was found to remain significant in 12 out of the 14 event windows examined. However, it was observed that the magnitude of the impact diminished as the period extended further from the event day. In light of these findings, it is concluded that while the onset of the Russia-Ukraine war caused a sharp and powerful negative shock for the firms in the BIST Transportation Index, this effect was not permanent and its statistical impact decreased over time.
