| dc.description.abstract | In this study, the effects of artificial aging, natural aging and cryogenic heat treatments on the corrosion and hardness properties of A-360 aluminum alloy were examined. Before aging, the solution was applied at 560 degrees C, the artificial aging process was applied at 190 degrees C, and the cryogenic process was applied at-140 degrees C. Cryogenic treatment was applied in two different periods: 8 and 16 hours. The corrosion properties of the samples to which different heat treatments were applied were determined by potentiodynamic corrosion tests in 3.5% NaCl environment. Hardness examinations of the samples were made by the Vickers method. Optical microscope and electron microscope (SEM) were used for microstructural examinations. According to corrosion test results; A significant improvement in the corrosion resistance of the alloy was achieved with the applied aging and cryogenic process. The maximum increase in corrosion resistance was 51% with the aging heat treatment and 92% with the cryogenic treatment. The hardness property that increased with aging increased even more with cryogenic treatment. With the application of cryogenic process, there was an increase in alloy hardness by 55 HV. Increasing hardness is an indication that other mechanical properties of the alloy are also improving. Changes in the microstructure of the alloy as a result of the applied heat treatments were effective in the increases in both corrosion resistance and hardness properties. | |
