dc.description.abstractObjective: To examine the influence of Modified Epley Maneuver on balance in patients with posterior semicircular canal (SCC) benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) Design: Retrospective study Setting: Ankara Numune Education and Research Hospital, Turkey Subjects: Twenty patients with with idiopathic posterior SCC BPPV Intervention: Modified Epley maneuver was applied for treatment Main Outcome Measure: The Tandem Romberg test (eyes open = EO and eyes closed = EC), one leg stance test, Timed Up and Go Test, 30 second sit to stand test and functional reach test were performed pre-treatment. Dizziness Handicap Inventory was applied pre-treatment. One week after the treatment, all the tests were repeated. Results: Statistically significant differences were found between the pre-treatment and post-treatment scores of the Tandem Romberg test, one leg stance test, Timed Up and Go test, sit to stand test, functional reach test and DHI (emotional, functional, physical and total scores). No statistically significant differences were found between the pre-treatment and post-treatment scores of the Tandem Romberg test, one leg stance test. Conclusion: The Modified Epley maneuver was found to be effective on the balance and quality of life in adult patients with BPPV. © The Kuwait Medical Journal. All rights reserved.
